Tomato Perugu Patchadi / Tomato Raita


Ingredients:
  1. Curd   -  2 cups
  2. Onions  - 1 medium sized (1/2 cup chopped)
  3. Tomatoes  -  2 large sized (1&1/2 cup finely chopped or pureed)
  4. Chilli powder(optional)  -  1/2tsp
  5. Turmeric powder  -  1/4tsp
  6. Salt  -  as per taste
For tempering (Popu):
  1. Oil  -  2tbsp
  2. Mustard seeds  -  1/4tsp
  3. Urad dal  -  1/2tsp
  4. Turmeric powder  -  1/4tsp
  5. Red chillies  -  3 no's
  6. Green chillies  -  3 no's
  7. Jeera  -  1/4tsp
  8. Ginger  -  1 inch piece finely chopped
  9. Hing  -  a pinch
Method:
  • Beat the curd till smooth, can use some water if required. Add some salt and 1/4tsp of turmeric to it and mix well.

  • Heat oil in a sauce pan/kadai on medium flame, add all tempering(popu) ingredients one by one and saute them for a minute or till the dals turn golden brown. Once dal changes it's colour slightly, add onions to it and saute till onions become transparent.
  • Then add chopped tomatoes, 1/4tsp turmeric, salt, chilli powder(ignore if your added chillies are spicy enough) and saute them. once tomatoes gets soft , turn off the stove and let the mixture cool.
  • Add this cooled tomato mixture to the beaten curd. Garnish with finally chopped coriander and serve hot with rice.

Note:

  • Use fresh curd and ripe tomatoes .
    • Can skip onions.
