Panasapottu Aava Petti Koora(Jack Fruit Curry) - Andhra Style

Ingredients:
  1. Panasapottu (Finely chopped raw Jackfruit)  -  500gms (I used)
  2. Aavalu (Mustard seeds)  -  1 tsp
  3. Minapappu (Urad dal)  -  1 tsp
  4. Senagapappu (Chana dal)  -  1tsp
  5. Karivepaku (curry leaves)  -  1 spring
  6. Inguva (Hing)  -  1/4 tsp
  7. Pasupu (Turmeric)  -  1/4 tsp
  8. Chintapandu Gujju ( Thick tamarind extract)  -  1 tbsp
  9. Yendumirchi (Dry red chillies)  -  4 no's
  10. Pachimirch (Green chillies)  -  4 no's
  11. Verusenagalu (Peanuts)  -  2 tbsp
  12. Nooni (Oil) -  2 tbsp
  13. Uppu (Salt)  -  As per taste
For Aava prepation:
  • Aava pindi  -  1tsp(Grind 1 tsp of Mustard seed into fine powder)
  • Chilli powder -  1tsp
  • salt  -  1tsp
Mix all these three ingredients  with very little amount of water and make it as a thin paste.

Procedure:
  • Wash finely chopped raw Jackfruit. Boil it  in two cups of water for few minutes and allow it to cool. Drain and squeeze the water completely from boiled  Jackfruit.

  •  Heat oil in a frying pan and add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal. Once these dals starts turning into brown add red and green chillies, hing, peanuts, curry leaves in it and fry them for a minute. To this seasoning add boiled jackfruit which is free from water and mix well.
  • To the above mixture, add thick tamarind paste, salt and mix well. Switch off the stove and let it cool for sometime.

  • Once it is cooled, add prepared thin paste of mustard seeds, red chilli powder and salt (refer Aava preparation) to it and mix thoroughly. Our tasty Jack Fruit curry is ready to serve with steamed hot rice.

Note:

  • Don't add Aava pindi while the curry is too hot, it gives bitter taste to the curry.
  • Tamarind should balance the flavour of mustard powder(Aava ghatu).
Tip:
  • In Andhra Pradesh, we get finely chopped Raw Jack Fruit in market, but for the people living in other places may get  complete Raw Jack Fruit. Then remove  the skin  of jack fruit using a sharp knife and cut it in to big chunks. Remember to oil your hands and the knife before starting so that there won't be any stickiness that is caused by latex(milk like liquid) which is released from Jack fruit. With the help of mixer grinder make these into fine pieces by rotating in reverse direction. With this you get finely chopped Jack Fruit to start the curry.
  • Spread few News Papers on ground while doing above process to get rid of stains on the floor.
